Are we about done with the rain and wind? The norâeaster brought some flooding, downed trees, and power outages, but at least we didnât have a shark swimming through the streets like they had in New Jersey.
The storm should fully clear out and give way to some mid-week sun, which weâd heard has been sitting up there this whole time, ahead of this weekendâs forecast, when weâre then expecting - you might have guessed - some more rain.
These past few days, we had the chance to escape to a beautiful maple farm in the Pocono Mountains and weâre excited to share more about that trip in the coming weeks. We couldnât fully dodge the wet weather, but did come across a bear out for a lake swim, foraged some healing plants and mushrooms, and took in a sound bath meditation session. Thanks to Mimi, one of our die-hard Know Your County trivia contestants, for battening down the hatches and looking after the kiddos here in southern Westchester!

With October just days away, Halloween season is right around the corner. Westchesterâs hottest Halloween spot is undeniably Sleepy Hollow, but it wasnât always named that. When was âNorth Tarrytownâ renamed Sleepy Hollow?
The answer is⌠1996!
The name change had been proposed back in the â80s but gained additional momentum after General Motors closed its Hudson River plant in 1996, taking with it thousands of jobs and tax revenue. In connecting with its literary past, Sleepy Hollow is now a major Halloween destination, drawing tens of thousands of tourists every year, which youâll see lining up to take a picture in front of the Sleepy Hollow village sign, roaming the cemeteries, and trying to get a glimpse of the Headless Horseman.
