💗 Sleeping With Wolves in Westchester

And a farewell to a few concert series that have kept us rocking all summer long

Hello Westchester!

As the summer concerts series come to an end, and a chill hits the air this week, we can’t but help reflect on what a wild ride this newsletter and its community has taken us on these past two months. We’ve met so many wonderful organizations and businesses, many of which are just great people trying to do memorable things, and we’re so excited to bring all of you ever closer to that.

The season may be changing but you can still expect to find everything that’s going on right here, alongside as much value add we can fit - from giveaways and exclusives to trip recommendations, and community-based experiences. Speaking of which, we spent all of Saturday watching vehicles and construction machinery take each other on in the name of soccer and demolition for some truly fun chaos and destruction at Oz Farm’s inaugural Excavation Games… and Wes and our son Kai scored a hole in one by hitting a golf ball with a digger bucket! Where would you find it? Oh yeah… right here!

We hope you found some special moments, too. Who knows… there may be a few in here waiting for you this week!

🚗 Worth a Drive

We’re spoiled for choice in Westchester, but here are our top picks if you find yourself outside county lines this week…

Image from DestinationDutchess.com

Tue., Aug 19 - Sun., Aug 24 | Dutchess County Fairgrounds, Rhinebeck | Daily hours & ticket options vary, check link for details

Make the most of the remaining summer weeks and party at the 179th Dutchess County Fair running Tuesday through Sunday. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Cheap Trick, headline the entertainment with a concert on Wednesday night (7.30p) while the rest of the week is packed with rides, games, bands, dog jumping, livestock costume competitions and, of course, pig racing.

Running through October | Bronx Zoo | Times & tickets vary, check link for details

You’ll find more than 60 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs waiting for you just around the bend as you stroll through the Bronx Zoo as part of this year’s Dinosaur Safari installation. Hands-on fossil activities are available for the little ones.

Thu., Aug 21 | Yankee Stadium, Bronx | 7.15p | Tickets from $81 on SeatGeek

While Jerry Seinfeld is famously a New York Mets die-hard, his sitcom companion and Assistant to the Traveling Secretary, George Costanza, will be forever linked with the Yankees. To that end, August 21st versus the Red Sox is Seinfeld Night in the Bronx with the first 18,000 fans receiving a bobblehead of George sleeping under his desk at the Yankee offices!

🏡 Where the Heart Is…

Incredible homes are listed in Westchester every week. Here’s one that caught our eye…

Listed by Corcoran Legends Realty

If you’ve been a part of our Loving Westchester crew for a few weeks, you’ll know we usually add the “Where the Heart Is…” section to our Friday edition as a nice daydreamy lead into the weekend. Well, we couldn’t wait until Friday for this one…

196 Furnace Dock Road is the brainchild of Hollywood’s Jackie Gleason, designed and built by Robert Cika, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. The home is so many things at once… a northern Westchester escape on 8.6 acres while looking like it could escape Planet Earth at a moment’s notice (Jackie was allegedly fascinated with UFOs which inspired the design). It’s tucked away from civilization but also played host to cultural icons, Sinatra, Monroe & DiMaggio, to name a few. Its contributors included a Scandinavian shipbuilder (to get the bent wood design just right) and an Italian marble quarry (yes, the whole quarry, which Jackie was rumored to have bought to make sure he had enough for the house). All that, and it’s only 6 minutes from the train, unless… you know… it actually can fly!
