Carnival season begins and Pelé's former team comes to Westchester

Hello, Westchester!

 

How was your weekend? Ours was spent across approximately one hundred different sports venues, mostly thanks to our son Kai, who also turned nine on Sunday! Somehow, we still managed to make it out to a few local events.

 

We caught Ben Stiller’s moving documentary screening about his parents, followed by a Q&A with Stiller himself at the Irvington Theater. It was funny, moving, beautifully shot, and one of those evenings that stays with you afterward. We even managed to grab a drink after and make the most of having the grandparents over (thanks guys!). We love Irvington, it’s such a special little town.

 

We also made it to our first-ever pro frisbee game in New Rochelle. Huge congratulations to NY Gridlock on a big win over the Milwaukee Monarchs. We came away seriously impressed by the athleticism, atmosphere, and just how fun it was to watch live. They’re back home again this Sunday and we’ll have another special Loving Westchester offer in Friday’s edition if you’re thinking of checking them out too.

 

This week’s edition has a little bit of everything: soccer rivalries with Pelé-era history, waterfront beer festivals, smoky whiskey tastings inside an Airstream, carnivals, comedy nights, meditation in the fields, and a free mac & cheese pop-up. Basically the kind of information a good friend texts you so you don’t miss out.

 

And before we go… a quick nod to one of our favorite local spots, Duke’s Ramen, who have just released their latest “100 Bowls for Good” charity initiative. This time around they’re serving up a pulled pork pernil ramen bowl with part of the proceeds supporting local organizations doing important work in the community.

The Barley Beach House's annual waterfront craft beer festival returns with 50-plus breweries, over 100 tastings, food trucks, live music, and 75 artisan vendors on the Sound. Bissell Brothers will be there, a big favorite of ours. Check ‘em out.
