đ Loving Westchester's Weekend Spotlight: Movie Mayhem, Laser Lights & A Hollywood Haunt
Plus, White Plains Oktoberfest gets a rockin' revival and two Grammy winners come to town

Happy Friday, Westchester!
Itâs the final weekend before Halloween and, as youâd expect, there are a ton of things to do focused on the haunted holiday. No matter where you live across the county, you wonât be far from a âspooktacularâ or âHalloweekendâ and thatâs a nod to the amazing work our local towns do to put on events like these throughout the year.
If Halloween isnât really your thing, youâve got a ton of options, too⊠Grammy award winning musicians, comedians whoâve featured on the biggest late night shows, a radio host once dubbed the greatest in America and a renowned laser light performance artist. All in the space of three days!
Last weekend, we found ourselves taking a trip up the river starting in Yonkersâ Emerald Mile for its Fall Festival on McLean Avenue. The better half of Loving Westchesterâs husband / wife duo is a Dubliner, so itâs always nice to head down there for the accents and familiar food. From there, we made some new friends at Uncle Leftyâs in Hastings - the sort of community-focused spot that youâd wish every town had and one we definitely recommend. Finally, we ended at the Sleepy Hollow Block Party and caught all the sights and sounds youâd want to see this time of year. Most of our drive was up Route 9, a trip thatâs quickly becoming one of our favorites around the county - made even better when the kids are asleep!
Whether youâre thrilled or chilled this weekend, we hope itâs exactly what the doctor (Jekyll?) ordered,
Wes+Bec

đ Eats-chester
To have a great food or drink experience, you really are searching for something quite illusive. Maybe the coffee is good but thereâs no ambience, maybe the staff are wonderful, but the pizza is forgettable. Itâs so hard to get it all ârightâ. Then there are the places that seem to have found the secret recipe, where every element tries so hard to please you, you canât help but fall in love with it. When itâs clear that making something for others to consume is seen as a privilege, where the passion to create never seems to run out, and the walls (or in this case, lack thereof) house memories, stories, laughter, and community. On that note, have you been to the Dog Den in White Plains? And if you have, have you met its owner, Dennis? You wouldnât forget either of them, we promise you that.
We knew weâd love Dennis before we met him. His menu says it all with more than 70 hot dogs, an array of loaded carbs of all kinds, and foodie innovations. Everything about the den smacks of history and heart. We got some delicious dogs with interesting ingredient combos that just worked, alongside what can only be described as a ridiculous dog-laden, tater tot mac and cheese with bbq sauce. Then there was my favorite, the Corn Kernel Poppers⊠soft but crunchy, salty and sweet all at the same time. And if you go on Saturday, youâll be able to try even more special creations with their Frank & Stein event!

In celebration of Halloween, the Dog Den has really gone all out with a host of special menu items including Frankenstein's Frightening Frosted Flakes Mac and Cheese (there are no words), a bacon wrapped footlong creation (itâs ALIVE!), the âOh My Gourdâ, a hot dog slathered in sweet potato fries, caramelized onions, baked beans, BBQ sauce and bacon bits, and The Sloppy Skull, a dog with a flattened bun topped with caramelized onions, mac and cheese, chili, BBQ sauce, more deep fried dogs AND double diced dogs because⊠why not. Youâll even find the Butternut Squash soup has been bedoggled (sorry!) There will be beers, brews, ciders, and dirty sodas, and for $13 you can get any specialty dog with a draft beer in a stein! Buns up at 11.30, music from 1, and plenty of fun to be had until the dogs sell out!
While youâre there you can see what dog you are for your height, spin the wheel of wieners, or check out the the fellowship of 40 franks⊠a testament to the community Dennis and his Den has built where anyone who has tried 40 different dogs (using a special Dog Den diary) gets their own plaque. #Goals. See you Saturday, weâll be the stein-laden couple in stretchy pants.
