💗 Loving Westchester's Weekday Wonders: Grammys, Ghouls & Gordon Gecko

Plus... jumping to the left in Tarrytown, crawling through Yonkers & running amok, amok, amok in Dobbs Ferry

Hi friends,

Have you had enough Halloween shenanigans yet? Hopefully not as we’re just reaching the pinnacle! Wes mentioned in the last issue that one of us is Irish… that’s me, Bec. Maybe it’s because of that that Halloween is so dear to me. I have the fondest memories as I’m blessed with a mother who helped us stay children for as long as possible, but perhaps it goes deeper… Did you know Halloween was born in Ireland? Signaling the end of autumn and start of winter, it was thought the veil between our world and whatever realm you may or may not believe in was thin at this time of year (Samhain) so you needed to protect yourself - wearing masks, carving vegetables into scary faces and placing them at your doorstep, and lighting bonfires to ward off anything mischievous.

The beautiful side was it was thought that the boundary was thin enough for our loved ones who have passed to visit for a short while or for those who have recently passed to move on. Much like the Day of the Dead, really. Although the holiday has definitely evolved, it’s lovely to see people embrace the magic, and come together for moments of light amidst the dark.

Speaking of moments of light, we recently passed 8,000 readers (and 7,000 followers), so we wanted to say a massive THANK YOU for engaging, supporting and spreading the word. We love doing this, but hearing how much you’re enjoying it, or getting your recommendations, or hearing from business owners and event organizers that their events have increased in popularity makes it feel far more special! We always said our mission was to make life less stressful and more joyful for those like us looking to make the best of their downtime, and as we grow we intend to make that more and more the case.

Thank you for being a part of that journey! And see you on Halloween!

Wes+Bec
