💗 Loving Westchester's Thrilling Three-Day Weekend: A Tribute for a King & a Quartet for a Queen

Plus, tunes to take you back thirty years and some more that will fling you into summer

Hello, Westchester!

We're two weeks into the new year and something's shifting. The holiday lights have come down, routines have settled back in, and suddenly, almost without us noticing, Westchester is waking up again. Event calendars are filling. Venues are flipping their lights back on. That winter quiet is giving way to something livelier.

January has a way of making us want to hunker down, but this weekend is serving up some pretty compelling reasons to do the opposite. Queen by candlelight in Mount Kisco. A summer-vibes benefit show that'll make you forget it's still winter. Comedy, wine tasting, 90s tribute bands, and if you're feeling the nostalgia, Team Edward vs. Team Jacob at Alamo Drafthouse.

This is the sweet spot: early enough in the year that everything still feels possible, late enough that we're all craving a reason to break out of our routines and remember what we love about living here.

So have a read, pick something that sounds good, and get back out there. Westchester's ready when you are.

Gig Alert!

Wed., Jan 21 | Emelin Theatre, Mamaroneck | 7p | $59-$170

We had the opportunity to see Summer Fling last year at Jon Chattman’s A-Sides Beach Ball and they absolutely killed. Some bad news… their high energy stage presence and sound will have you wishing summer was here again and… it’s not. The good news, though, is that they’ll be in Mamaroneck’s Emelin Theatre next Wednesday when they host a benefit concert supporting The STEM Alliance's Summer Matters Campaign alongside opener, The Wild Life. Go support a great cause and start your summer early.

Thanks to our partner, QueenBPoker!

🍪 Eats-chester

Just Chippy’s, a new cookie spot in White Plains, has just opened its doors and is already drawing plenty of curiosity and support.

It’s female-founded with a genuinely lovely backstory. The founder traded a former career in the FBI for baking, following a path that actually started much earlier at a childhood farm stand. That mix of discipline and heart carries through into the store, its produce, and the overall selection.

The cookies themselves look like perfect scoops of ice cream or dough, rounded and generous, and anything but stingy with the ingredients. These are very soft, doughy cookies, with visible swirls, chunks, and fillings throughout. Jelly and jam are still sticky on many of them, fruit is left proudly lumpy, and nothing feels restrained. There are also seasonal offerings, which is always nice to see.

These cookies are rich, indulgent, and sweet. Even the options that sound like they might be on the “healthier” end of the spectrum lean decadent. Expect big pockets of fruit, chocolate, or whatever the flavor calls for.

If you love a soft, dough-forward cookie that goes big on fillings, Just Chippy’s is right up your street.

Also new to White Plains is Home Frite, the Brooklyn-born spot with a loyal following and a few locations already under its belt.

Solid, tasty burgers and seriously loaded fries are the headline, but you can absolutely feel a little better by going the salad route too. We love a good Nashville chicken and combined with their salad it really punches. Everything feels reliable and fairly priced, making it an easy win for pickup when you want a tasty and real version of what’s considered “fast food.”

Two new additions in White Plains, both great for pickup, and both shooting for a spot in the rotation.

One small note from us: we’re going to be a little more tuned in to health choices for a bit after some recent health stuff you may have seen, so we’ll be paying closer attention to places that strike a balance between easy, good, and genuinely nourishing. If you have a go-to spot that does “healthy but still delicious” without overcharging for the privilege, we’d love to hear about it. Don’t worry, you’re still going to get the ridiculous and the indulgent for good measure. Everything in moderation… including moderation!
