💗 Loving Westchester's Golden Weekend: Aerin's Medal & Music Legends

Billy Gibbons, ABBA tribute, Coldplay by candlelight (plus possible snow)

Happy Friday, Westchester!

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"

-Al Pacino (Godfather: Part III) & Westchester residents seeing the possibility of snow this weekend, probably

As of writing today’s edition of Loving Westchester, there is an uncertain but real chance that we see a meaningful amount of snow across the area this weekend. After being teased with a string of non-freezing days that had finally seen some piles of snow disappear or at least shrink, we might be getting out the salt and shovels once again. Big win for procrastinators who never put those away in the first place. Just be sure to keep an eye on how that forecast changes over the next day or two… there are sure to be loads of families on the move this weekend as the school break wraps up.

In much better news, Chappaqua’s-own Aerin Frankel backstopped the US women’s ice hockey team to an incredible comeback win in the gold medal game against Canada on Thursday afternoon in Milan. Canada came out flying and grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the second period, converting an unlucky offensive zone bounce for the US power play into the game’s opening goal. Aerin made several key stops and held the deficit to one from then on as the US women tried to break through a tough Canadian defense… with the tying goal coming from US captain Hilary Knight with just 2 minutes left in regulation. Megan Keller won the game for the US in overtime with a beauty of a goal that will be shown on US Olympic highlight reels & promos for years to come.

For Aerin, her first Olympic games ends with a gold medal around her neck with 3 shutouts and 97 shots stopped out of 99 faced. We were glued to the game all afternoon and couldn’t be happier for Aerin and the team. For those who want to keep following Aerin, she plays in the Professional Women’s Hockey League for the league-leading Boston Fleet and their season continues February 28th.

Now, onto the edition and local events at hand. This weekend brings a little bit of everything…. there's candlelight classical takes on Coldplay and Imagine Dragons at the Emelin Theatre, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons brings his blues-rock legends to Tarrytown Music Hall, and an authentic ABBA tribute lands on Sunday. For families, there's Mardi Gras celebrations at the Children's Museum, Tom Petty for kids at Garcia's, and a chance to meet award-winning children's author Joyce Markovics in Dobbs Ferry. Plus, comedy nights across the county, Italian wine tastings, and the Westchester Knicks taking the court.

We hope you make the most of it and enjoy the weekend!
