Ruben Studdard croons Mamaroneck & Chazz Palminteri throws a Bedford Halloween bash

Hello, Westchester!

Last weekend’s traffic around Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown was as rough as you’d expect ahead of the parade with cars not having access to Broadway… but that didn’t stop the area from completely showing off in the ā€œgolden hourā€ just as the parade stepped off.

We made our way from Philipse Manor, cutting through the middle of an eerily quiet Beekman Ave. in Sleepy Hollow, behind Patriots Park to see the parade lineup, and then on to a bustling Main Street, settling in for a parade of our own through Little B’s fall menu (try the Fallow Burger special!) while we took in the sights and sounds from the comfort of a dining table.

It was a great crowd and a memorable Westchester night, for sure! Though the temperature drop as it got dark was a real reminder to enjoy these last few weeks of fall before we slip into the colder weather.

Did anyone make it out to the parade? Any float favorites or other Sleepy Hollow / Tarrytown recommendations?

You’ve got another full calendar to enjoy this week and some more great weather to enjoy it in so keep reading and get out there!

šŸ“ Know Your County… with The Capitol Theatre!

Last week we asked… out of Matt Dillon, Ben Stiller, Mel Gibson, and Jason Bateman, which actor was NOT born in Westchester County?

The answer is… Ben Stiller!

Ben Stiller was born in Manhattan to his famous parents Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. As for the other three… Matt Dillon was born in New Rochelle and Jason Bateman was born in Rye. Mel Gibson, believe it or not, was born in Peekskill, though he’s much better known for his Aussie roots, where he and his family relocated when he was a child. 57% of you picked Mel, while just 16% had Ben!

Here’s your next question and let’s stay with Ben Stiller for a second…

If you followed the New York Knicks championship run back in June, you caught plenty of Ben on TV… a Celebrity Row staple, phone always in hand, and a Knicks documentary sure to be out soon (wild guess that it ends up on Apple TV). It was a historic win for the Knicks, being just their 3rd in team history. But looking way back in team history, a well-known author with Westchester ties played a big part in the ā€œKnickerbockerā€ name.

Who was the author?

šŸ” Where the Heart Is

Incredible homes are listed in Westchester every week. Here’s one that caught our eye

The Key Details: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2,013 square feet on 0.33 acres ($536 / square foot)

What We Love About It: The math is the first thing to notice… it’s listed $350k below Zillow’s estimate of $1.4m. It’s also a mid-century modern home that has had just one owner since it was built in 1961. A brick-walled fireplace anchors the open layout, and big windows and sliders look out over a landscaped yard with azaleas and rhododendron. The hardwood floors were recently refinished and the interior freshly painted, with the original details left intact. It sits in Edgemont’s ABC-streets neighborhood, with a two-car garage and plenty of storage.
